MyGallons prices move along with wholesale gas prices and are updated throughout the day. The price at the gas station lags behind wholesale price changes (typically 2-5 days). When prices move quickly the difference could be significant until the pump catches up to wholesale. This does not affect yours savings. You pre-purchase and cash-in at the MyGallons price which moves in a similar manner to those at the pump.
Pre-purchase your fuel online from MyGallons to lock-in the current price. When prices rise, cash-in your gallons to save money. When you cash-in your pre-purchased gallons you choose how to receive the money. For example, if you pre purchase fuel at $2.00 per gallon, wait until the price rises to $3.00 per gallon, cash in your gallons for $3 per gallon and you would save $1.00 per gallon.
You may buy fuel from any station around the world. Within 30 days of pumping the gas, log into the MyGallons site and tell us how many gallons you have used. We will multiply the number of gallons by the current MyGallons Price for your state and electronically deposit the money right into your checking account. You also have the option of cashing-in gallons and having the money loaded on a MyGallons Fuel Savings debit card to use at stations accepting major credit cards.
The MyGallons service is available for up to 4 cars per household. You may use up to 35 gallons of gas per 30 days with some exceptions. If you actually bought more than 35 gallons during the previous 30 days you can simply provide a copy of a receipt or credit card statement showing the gas purchases in order to exceed the limit.
MyGallons pricing is based on a combination of the wholesale price for fuel and the retail prices in your state. You may notice (especially out of state) that some gas stations charge more than the MyGallons Price, while others charge less. At any given time, the MyGallons Price is the MyGallons Price for your state — whether you are pre-purchasing fuel or cashing in gallons the price is the same. We do this to keep the price fair for everyone. If your local station is normally 10 cents higher than the MyGallons Price for your state, it will typically stay there so if prices rise by $1 at your local station the MyGallons price should also rise by the same $1 as long as your local station is not manipulating prices. At MyGallons we have no incentive to manipulate prices; if our price were artificially high our members would Cash In and collect the extra savings, if our prices were artificially low our members would PrePurchase more fuel and take advantage of the lower price.
Historically, the price of gasoline has fluctuated up and down over time. When prices drop, it may be wise to prepurchase as much gasoline as you can. When prices rise, cash in your gallons and enjoy the savings. We have many members who bought around $2/gallon in 2009 and cashed in when prices doubled to $4/gallon. Now that prices have dropped significantly, many of these same members (and new members) are buying while they can as they expect prices will rise once again.
Most MyGallons members choose to have the money from their Cash Ins deposited directly into their checking account in order to avoid the $10 fee that the bank (not MyGallons) charges to issue each card. On the other hand, it is convenient to load up a prepaid debit card for you or a family member to use at the station. The choice is yours!
First, be sure to go into the station to use your card. Most stations do not allow you to use prepaid debit cards at the pump. If the card still does not work, your card is probably out of money. You can check your card balance at any time by visiting the website listed on the back of the card and entering the serial number. If you have an active balance and it is not working, please contact us at 800-410-1877 or go to www.mygallons.com/contact.
You can use your MyGallons Fuel Savings Card at virtually every gas station that accepts credit cards. You may have to go inside to use the card as most stations do not accept prepaid debit cards at the pump.
You should use the money loaded on the card within 90 days. If you still have a balance after 90 days, the bank (not MyGallons) may deduct fees until there is a zero balance.
No. You are required to limit your use of the card to fuel purchases. Making non-fuel purchases with your card may result in cancellation of your membership.
There is no minimum for a MyGallons pre-purchase. While we cannot advise you on how much to buy, you can lock-in the price for as many gallons as you want. Many members are buying a few thousand gallons at a time when prices drop in order to protect themselves from future price increases.
The revised fees are designed to save you even more money if you buy when prices are low. You can save your gallons for as long as you like waiting for prices to rise and then cash in your gallons.
It is free to join MyGallons. Per gallons fees are collected at the time of pre-purchase and cash-in. The annual fee of $30 is deducted in gallons.
No, you do not. Your checking account information is only required if your cash-in order is for an electronic deposit into your checking account…. we simply need to know where to deposit your money. If you pre-purchase gallons with a credit card and cash-in using the MyGallons debit card, you do not have to provide your checking account information.
MyGallons uses 256-bit encryption and leading security software solutions to ensure that your data is safe. MyGallons does not save your credit card information for even greater security.
YES. You can order a MyGallons Fuel Savings Card from the Cash In page on MyGallons.com. The money from your cash in request will be loaded onto a prepaid debit card that you can use at the gas station to pay for your fuel. There is a $10 fee charged by the issuing bank (not MyGallons) for each card your order. You also have the option of having the money from your Cash In electronically deposited into your checking account, saving yourself the $10 card fee charged by the bank.
You can always check your balance online. If you try to Cash In more gallons than you have in your account, the order will simply be rejected. Remember, when prices drop you should consider Pre Purchasing more gas to save it for the future if prices rise once again. It is also a good idea to follow us on twitter so you can receive price alerts that can be helpful in deciding when to pre-purchase more gas.
When you pre-purchase gasoline we charge a 6% processing fee which includes the credit card fees that the bank charges to MyGallons.
Yes. No matter how high the price of gas rises, you can cash-in your pre-purchased gallons for the then current MyGallons price for your state. For example, some members paid less than $2 per gallons back in 2009 and cashed in when prices reached $4 per gallon….. it was like buying gas for 50% off!
Gas prices move up and down all the time. If prices drop, you can wait for them to go back up in the weeks or months ahead. Lower prices also offer you an excellent opportunity to pre-purchase and stock up on more fuel.
