FAQs

Q How do I use MyGallons to save money on gas?
A Buy your gallons in advance at your MyGallons price at the time of purchase and then redeem your gallons at the pump after the prices have risen. If you bought at $2.80 per gallon and waited until the prices went up to $3.20 per gallon you would save $.40 per gallon.

Q How do I use the MyGallons Card?
A The card works like a debit card. You swipe the card and enter a 4-digit PIN number to authorize the pump. Sometimes a pump will ask for a PIN, or a driver ID #, etc. -all you have to do is enter the PIN number.

top

Q Is the MyGallons Card a credit card?
A No. The MyGallons Card is a pre-paid gas card. You do not need any credit history to receive a MyGallons Card. We do not report to credit bureaus.

top

Q What if I go over my balance?
A You should do your best to prevent going over your pre-purchased balance to avoid incurring an overdraft fee of $15. If you have a balance of 10 gallons and you fill up at the pump with 12 gallons your account will be charged for the actual cost of the 2 gallons plus the overdraft fee. To avoid your card being declined and overdraft fees, we recommend that you enroll in the auto-refill program which pre-purchases more fuel for your account when your balance drops below 15 gallons.

top

Q Can MyGallons automatically refill my account?
A Yes. MyGallons can automatically pre-purchase more fuel for your account at the MyGallons price when your balance drops below 15 gallons. Choosing this option will eliminate potential overdraft fees. To maximize your savings you should consider buying more fuel when prices drop and not just waiting for the system to automatically purchase more fuel.

top

Q Why do I have to give you my credit card information?
A Your credit card information is required so that your pre-purchases and fees (such as the annual membership fee) can be charged to your designated Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card account.

top

Q Why is my pre-purchase price sometimes greater than the price at my local station?
A MyGallons determines your pre-purchase price using a variety of data. Since prices vary widely from one station to another, you will find a low-cost station that sells gas for less than your current MyGallons price and you will find other stations that charge more than your current MyGallons price. Keep in mind, MyGallons is designed to protect you from increasing fuel prices over time, we cannot control the price discrepancies from one station to another.

top

Q Is there a fee for reloading the MyGallons Card?
A There is a small $1.95 fee for processing the reload of your MyGallons Card when using a credit card to pre-purchase the fuel.

top

Q How do I know my personal financial information is safe?
A MyGallons uses 256-bit encryption and leading security software solutions to ensure that your data is safe.

top

Q Where will my MyGallons Card be accepted?
A We are currently negotiating with payment networks that would allow your MyGallons Card to be accepted at most stations in the US accepting credit cards.

top

Q Can I save even more money by shopping for the lowest priced station?
A Yes. If you pump fuel from a filling station for less than the lower end of the MyGallons range on that day, you will receive a credit, in gallons, to your account. Just as if you were using lower priced stations to save money before using MyGallons, you can save money by using lower priced stations with your MyGallons Card.

top

Q Is my pre-purchase of gas from MyGallons safe? Will my gas be there when I need it?
A Your pre-purchases of gas are safe and secure with MyGallons. Over 80% of your pre-purchase amount is placed in an escrow account and invested in money markets and U.S. Government backed notes. The remaining balance is utilized for financial transactions to accomodate for gasoline price changes.

top

Q Will MyGallons still pay for my gas if prices go to $5 per gallon or higher?
A Yes. No matter how high the price of gas rises, you can redeem your gallons at the price you originally pre-purchased them for, subject to certain adjustments, such as fuel grade/type upgrades or purchasing from filling stations with prices higher or lower than the acceptable range for your area.

top

Q How do I know when I need to purchase more gas?
A You can check your balance online and you can sign up for email or text message alerts. Keep in mind that pre-purchases and redemptions at the pump made in the last 72 hours will not appear on your account page and will not be reflected in the emails and text messages.

top

Q Why don't my purchases show up instantly?
A When you make a pre-purchase, there can be up to a 72 -hour delay before funds become available for use at the pump. When you redeem at the pump there is also a delay before the data comes through the network to our systems. If you are not enrolled in the auto-refill program, you should keep track of your purchases and redemptions to make sure you don't go into overdraft. We recommend that you enroll in the auto-refill program to avoid your card being declined and incurring overdraft fees.

top

Q What if prices go down?
A Gas prices move up and down all the time. If prices drop you can wait for them to go back up in the days or weeks ahead.

top

Q If my MyGallons Card is stolen, can the thief steal my gas?

top

Q If I lose my MyGallons Card, do I lose my gallons like with a pre-paid gift card?
A No. Your pre-purchased gallons are safe in your MyGallons account. If you lose your card, simply order a replacement card and it will link to your MyGallons account.

top

Q Why was there an adjustment when I used Premium Unleaded?
A Your pre-purchase price is based on the price of self-service regular unleaded gas, typically the least expensive fuel. If you upgrade to a another grade or type of fuel such as premium, diesel, marine, etc. an adjustment is made for the extra cost, converted into gallons. This method keeps things simple and reduces your cost for pre-purchases.

top

Q Can I use the MyGallons Card when traveling? What if the price of gas is different where I am traveling?
A Yes. If you travel to an area where prices are significantly different than the cost of gas in your home area, MyGallons automatically makes an adjustment to your account in gallons. For example, if you live in CA and traveled to NJ where gas is about 50 cents a gallon less, you will earn a credit of 50 cents per gallon. It works in reverse if you use the card where gas is priced higher than your home area.

top

Q Why was there an adjustment when I took a trip?
A Adjustments are made to account for tax and price discrepancies between your MyGallons price and the price at the location where you filled up. MyGallons assumes that most of your purchases will occur in your home area and within a reasonable price range and prices your pre-purchases accordingly.

top

Q When is the best time to buy gas from MyGallons?
A Since the price of gasoline fluctuates virtually all of the time; we suggest that you keep an adequate supply in your account at all times to protect against a sudden price increase. When the cost drops during normal price fluctuations you may want to consider stocking up on more gallons while gas is "on sale."

top

Q When is the best time to redeem at the pump?
A Many customers choose to use their MyGallons card every time they get gas, but for maximum savings it is best to wait for the price to rise. When the price goes down, buy more gallons and then redeem them when the price goes up again.

top

Q What if I really need gas now and the only station is charging really high prices?
A Most stations charge a fair and reasonable price for fuel. Some stations charge much more than the current average price in their area. We encourage you to avoid these high priced stations. If you must use one on occasion, MyGallons will adjust your account, in gallons, to reflect the higher priced fuel. This is no different than if you had to pay that station out of your pocket compared to going to another lower-priced station.

top

Q Is MyGallons different from the Chrysler $2.99 program?
A Yes. MyGallons does not require that you buy a new car. MyGallons does not limit the number of gallons you can use. You may pre-purchase as much fuel as you wish at your MyGallons price. MyGallons does not expire after 3 years. Your MyGallons Card can be used for all types of fuels and vehicles. The programs are similar in only one way, they both lock-in a price for fuel.

top

Q Who pays the gas station?
A MyGallons pays the gas station the pump price for the gas you used. You paid the pre-purchase price already and simply picked up your gas at the local station.

top

Q Am I pre-purchasing the gas with tax?
A No. You are pre-purchasing regular unleaded gasoline and paying for estimated taxes based on the tax rates in your home location at the time of your pre-purchase. MyGallons uses this method since we have no control over taxes. If taxes go up or down, your account will be adjusted accordingly.

top

Q Can I use the fuel card for my fleet of cars or trucks?
